Plowden's Progress

Remember the Plowden Report?

It officially entered the world in January 1967, at the start of the Forsyte Saga when colour TV was something new and computers were aspects of science fiction; a time when Keswick Hall was in its hey-day.

Many of us, as former Keswick students, were greatly influenced by this report. For many of us it has influenced our teaching ever since. As a teaching head, in glorious Devon, I still have a copy of Plowden on my shelf, and read aspects of it wistfully from time to time.

Recently I came across 'Plowden's Progress' by Alan Kerr. This essay on Primary Education is well worth reading. Available, at £4.00 from Quercus Publications, 8 The Barton, Bleadon, Weston-Super-Mare. BS 24 0AS
