Anne Mortlock - Keswick Memories 1975 - 78
I remember being dropped off on the first day with my brand new blue trunk and sitting in a little room in East Wing and wondering what I'd let myself in for! From then on I loved every minute.
Things that stand out are the Geography trips - particularly to Whitby where I took a photo of David Wright sitting in some heather with a Vicks inhaler up his nose! His phrase on that trip was "Is everybody happy?" I wonder whether he remembers the time we hid his pyjamas!
My friend and I were from the Fens and he was extremely interested in the trains in that area (is he still into trains?) He used to call us 'Fen Slodgers' as he had a slide about old Fenmen and it was entitled 'Fen Slodgers'
I loved the summers where we all used to congregate in the quad or outside the rooms with Abba playing loudly from the record player. I remember the food and loved the breakfasts, worth getting up early for, and as for those cold sausages on bread rolls at coffee break!
Some lecturers were clearer than others; the ones that were taken by the PE woman who looked like Miss Trunchball from Matilda, for example. On one occasion we put the resuscitation dummy on the toilet. She was extremely cross until one of the mature students (typically) dobbed us in.
At weekends I used to hope for Vesta Chow Mein because I loved the crispy noodles! Any that were left over became mine! We used to go to Samson and Hercules on Saturdays where I seem to remember there was a very good Boney M tribute band. And of course, there was always Captain America's!
I represented the college at tennis and hockey and had a great time on tour at Holland where we came third which was no mean feat as there were plenty of internationals and big German women who scared us to death!
Happy days!
