15 Apr 2007 - The Keswick Hall Old Students' Club
THE OLD STUDENTS' CLUB
The Old Students' Club is looking to welcome new members in order to sustain the Club in future years. Activity on the website and other enquiries show growing interest amongst Old Students for news of their contemporaries. The Club, with its Register, helps former students to get in touch and stay in touch.
Founded in 1895, as 'a means of permanent connection with the College, and a bond of union amongst past students', the Club's structure has never changed. Its executive is a committee with the Principal as President, charged with holding an annual reunion and meeting, until 1981 hosted by the College, and with keeping a register of members. Annually it produces a magazine still called 'The College Letter'.
The membership is organised in year groups, each with a year secretary, who sends out reunion invitations and College Letters and who aims to keep year members in touch with one another. Currently there are 53 year groups and more than 430 members! Are you a member?
In 1927 a benevolent fund was started to help Old Students who had fallen on hard times. By 1980 the Fellowship Fund had become a registered charity. Gifts are sent after confidential recommendations from members or after applying for oneself.
The Norwich Reunion is now in mid May (2007:Saturday 19th May at 2.00 pm) at St Andrew's Church, Eaton. Regional reunions attended by the President, often with other members of staff, were for many years held in several places and the London Reunion continues to take place at Christchurch, Blackfriars Road at 12.30 pm on the second Saturday in October.
The costs of the club are met entirely from the annual subscription, which is currently £5.00. The subscription covers, among other things, the costs of the magazine. This is sent out over the Christmas period. Details of the reunion and the AGM are sent to members in the Spring.
If you would like to become a member of the club, please send me the information set out on the form below, together with a cheque for £5.00, payable to Keswick Hall Old Students' Club. I will then forward your details to your year secretary.
Please send the form and your cheque to: 1 Fairhaven Court, Norwich, NR2 3RX. I look forward to hearing from you soon. With best wishes and thanks,
David Seddon
(Membership and Register Secretary)
